In an interview that aired April 2 and 3 on Good Morning America, Gilbert told George Stephanopoulos that the allegations have already caused lasting damage, regardless of the legal outcome. “Our life as we knew it is done,” she said, adding that even if Busfield is cleared, his career and their shared plans have been significantly affected.
Gilbert strongly defended her husband’s character, describing him as someone with a “strong moral compass.” She said she does not believe he is capable of harming a child. At the same time, she emphasized that her support is not unconditional, stating that if she believed the allegations were true, she would not stand by him.
Busfield is facing four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child following a grand jury indictment in New Mexico. The charges relate to allegations made by two 11-year-old twins who were working on the television series The Cleaning Lady, where Busfield served as a director.
According to court documents, the children reported inappropriate touching and said they were encouraged to call Busfield “Uncle Tim.” Medical professionals who evaluated the situation noted potential indicators consistent with grooming behavior.
Busfield surrendered to authorities in January 2026 and was released on his own recognizance on January 20. He entered a plea of not guilty to all charges on February 10.
In public statements, Busfield has denied the allegations, calling them false and saying he intends to fight the case in court. Gilbert said she is stepping back from some professional commitments to focus on supporting her family as the legal process continues.
No trial date has been publicly confirmed. The case remains ongoing.
