In a statement posted on Instagram, Shomo said he had been struggling with his sexuality for many years and spent a long time hiding his feelings. He explained that quitting alcohol and focusing on self-understanding helped him accept who he is.
Shomo said Beartooth’s earlier albums reflected his battles with depression, self-hatred, and his religious upbringing, but he now feels he was not being fully honest with himself. He added that the band’s upcoming album, Pure Ecstasy, will be his most open and personal work yet.
He also thanked supporters and encouraged others who are struggling with their identity to be patient with themselves and seek self-acceptance.
