In the video, published by TMZ on May 21, an officer warned Britney about the dangers of driving under the influence. Britney responded by mentioning that her mother had once “killed a man on a bike” and questioned why Lynne was never arrested.
The comment referred to a 1975 accident in Kentwood, Louisiana, when Lynne Spears struck and killed 12-year-old Anthony Winters while driving her injured brother to the hospital during heavy rain. Lynne later described the crash in her 2008 memoir, calling it unavoidable because of the wet roads. She was never charged.
Anthony’s mother said in a 2019 interview that Lynne never personally apologized, though she acknowledged the crash was an accident.
The footage surfaced as more details emerged about Britney’s March 4 arrest. According to a police report, officers said she spoke incoherently and admitted to drinking alcohol and taking medications earlier that day.
Britney later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving. She received 12 months of probation and was ordered to attend DUI classes and continue mental health treatment. Her attorney said she had accepted responsibility and taken steps toward positive change.
