The singer revealed she was diagnosed in 2024 with Basal Cell Carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. She initially thought a mark on her back was a mosquito bite while on holiday in Mallorca. When it failed to heal and became itchy, her husband encouraged her to get it checked.
Doctors later confirmed the diagnosis, which Hamilton believes was linked to frequent sunbed use in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She described the experience as a “massive wake-up call.” After undergoing a procedure to remove the affected tissue, she was declared cancer-free.
Hamilton is now urging fans to take skin safety seriously by using SPF and monitoring any unusual changes in their skin.
In a March 2026 interview on the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, Hamilton also spoke about her difficult early relationship with Katona. She said the two “clashed almost instantly” when she joined Atomic Kitten in 1999.
According to Hamilton, tensions began when she suggested dance moves as a newcomer, which Katona reportedly saw as being “bossy.” The situation escalated to the point where Katona allegedly told management she would leave if Hamilton stayed, leaving Hamilton in tears.
Although they continued working together for years, their strained relationship resurfaced in late 2024 when Hamilton left the group to focus on a solo career. Katona publicly mocked the decision, making sarcastic comments about replacing her and referencing the band’s hit Whole Again.
Since leaving the group, Hamilton has been building her solo career, releasing singles Numb and Fantasy in 2026 ahead of her debut EP Extraction.
She has also spoken openly about her past struggles with postnatal depression and the lack of mental health support for pop stars in the early 2000s.
Outside of music, Hamilton played a key role in campaigning for “Anne’s Law,” introduced in Scotland in March 2026. Named after her mother, the law ensures care home residents have the right to receive visits from loved ones.
