Deputies reported finding two loose hydrocodone pills in Woods’ left pants pocket during a search at the scene. The pills, marked “M367,” are a commonly prescribed opioid used to treat severe pain.
According to the report, Woods told deputies he was distracted just before the crash. He said he was looking down at his cell phone and trying to change the radio station in his Land Rover when he failed to notice a pickup truck slowing ahead of him.
Although a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.00, deputies noted signs of possible impairment. The arresting officer described Woods as lethargic, sweating heavily despite air conditioning in the vehicle, and having bloodshot, glassy eyes with dilated pupils.
Woods attributed his condition to his medical history. He told officers he has undergone seven back surgeries and more than 20 leg procedures. Deputies also observed a compression sock on his right knee. During field sobriety exercises, he appeared unsteady and had difficulty completing the tests.
He has been charged with driving under the influence involving property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Authorities said Woods declined to take a urine test after being taken to jail.
Woods was released on bail early Saturday morning after being held for the mandatory eight-hour period required under Florida law.
The arrest comes just weeks before the 2026 Masters Tournament, scheduled to begin April 9. His participation was already uncertain due to ongoing physical recovery, and it remains unclear whether he will compete. Augusta National Golf Club has not issued a statement.
This is the second time Woods has faced a DUI-related arrest involving prescription medication. In 2017, he was found asleep in his vehicle and later said he had experienced an unexpected reaction to prescribed drugs.
