Apple TV+ Prepares Release of Postponed Series The Savant

Jessica Chastain has confirmed that her political thriller series The Savant will be released on Apple TV+ after a long and unexpected delay.

The show was originally scheduled to premiere in September 2024 but was pulled from the release calendar shortly before its debut. Apple did not provide detailed public reasoning at the time, though the decision was widely understood to be related to concerns about the show’s themes of political violence and extremism.

In a recent update, Chastain said, “We’re going to see it,” indicating that the project is back on track. Apple TV+ has not yet announced a new premiere date, but industry observers expect the release to happen in the near future.

The Savant is an eight-episode series inspired by a 2019 Cosmopolitan article that explored whether mass shootings can be prevented before they happen. Chastain plays a covert investigator who infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop violent attacks. The character is based on a real but anonymous figure who reportedly worked with organizations monitoring extremism.

The cast also includes Nnamdi Asomugha, who plays the protagonist’s husband, and Pablo Schreiber in a supporting role.

At the time of the postponement, Chastain publicly disagreed with the decision to delay the series. She argued that the show’s focus on preventing violence made it especially relevant.

Apple is expected to follow its original release plan, with two episodes debuting first, followed by weekly installments. Further details about the premiere are still pending.
