Dr. Hook Singer Dennis Locorriere Dies at 76 After Kidney Disease Battle

Dennis Locorriere, the lead singer and guitarist of the rock band Dr. Hook, has died at 76 after a long battle with kidney disease.

A statement on the band’s official website said he died peacefully on Saturday surrounded by family. It described him as strong, dignified, and deeply loved.

Locorriere was a founding member of Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, formed in 1968. The band became known for hits including “Sylvia’s Mother” and “The Cover of Rolling Stone” in the early 1970s. Dr. Hook released 11 studio albums before ending its original run in the 1980s.

After the band split, Locorriere continued touring under the Dr. Hook name and also released solo albums, including Out of the Dark and One of the Lucky Ones.

In a 2025 interview, he said he appreciated the band’s success but did not miss spending nearly all year on the road, saying it kept him away from his son.
