Security Scare or Misunderstanding? Chappell Roan Responds to Viral Accusation

A brief encounter at a hotel breakfast in São Paulo has rapidly grown into an international controversy involving pop star Chappell Roan, footballer Jorginho Frello, and even local Brazilian politics.

What Happened

The incident reportedly took place over the weekend during the Lollapalooza Brazil. According to Jorginho, his 11-year-old stepdaughter—Ada Law, the daughter of singer Catherine Harding and actor Jude Law—recognized Roan while the family was having breakfast at their hotel.

Jorginho claims the child did not approach or interact with the singer. However, he alleges that a man he believes was part of Roan’s security team confronted them aggressively, accusing the child of harassment and threatening to escalate the situation with hotel management. He said the encounter left the girl visibly shaken and in tears.

The footballer later criticized Roan publicly, stating she “does not deserve her fans’ affection,” as backlash quickly spread online.

Roan Responds

On Sunday (March 22), Roan addressed the situation through Instagram Stories, pushing back against the accusations.

She said she had no awareness of the incident at the time, explaining that she never saw the family and that “no one came up to me” during the meal. Roan also clarified that the individual involved was not part of her personal security team, suggesting instead that it may have been hotel or event security acting independently.

Responding to growing criticism online, she rejected claims that she is dismissive of fans, writing: “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children—that is crazy.”

Conflicting Accounts

The situation became more complicated when Catherine Harding disputed Roan’s version of events. Harding insisted that the man involved was not hotel staff and was in fact traveling with the singer, directly contradicting Roan’s statement.

Despite the disagreement, tensions appeared to ease slightly when Jorginho later shared an update saying “everything is well with the girls,” adding that the family continued their festival experience and enjoyed a performance by Sabrina Carpenter.

Political Reaction Adds Fuel

The controversy took an unexpected turn when Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, publicly weighed in.

In a strong statement, Cavaliere said Roan would “never” be invited to perform at Copacabana Beach under his administration. He contrasted the situation with an upcoming free concert by Shakira in May and extended a public invitation for Jorginho’s stepdaughter to attend as a guest of honor.
