Speaking on the Call Her Daddy in late February 2026, Duff confirmed she “crashed” the August 2003 premiere of Freaky Friday during the height of their teenage rivalry.
At the time, Duff attended the event as a guest of Chad Michael Murray, who starred alongside Lohan in the film and was preparing to work with Duff on A Cinderella Story.
Duff admitted her motives were not innocent. While Murray invited her, she said she saw it as an opportunity to annoy Lohan amid their ongoing tension. The feud largely stemmed from both stars dating late pop singer Aaron Carter in the early 2000s.
Now, Murray is setting the record straight. In a recent interview on Virgin Radio Toronto, he said he had no idea there was any bad blood between the two actresses at the time.
“I was completely unaware of the beef,” Murray explained, adding that social media didn’t exist then, so he wasn’t tuned into celebrity drama. He said he invited Duff simply so they could spend time together and build on-screen chemistry ahead of filming A Cinderella Story.
“I just thought two people are going to go hang out,” he said, emphasizing that there was no hidden agenda behind the invitation.
The premiere appearance became part of a back-and-forth between the two young stars. Months later, in December 2003, Lohan reportedly showed up uninvited to the premiere of Duff’s film Cheaper by the Dozen, continuing what fans dubbed a “feud of the century.”
Despite the drama, both actresses have since moved on. Duff shared that she later ran into Lohan at a club, where the two took a shot together and put their differences behind them.
Today, the former rivals appear to be on good terms. Duff even revealed that her young daughter is now a big fan of Lohan, signaling just how far things have come since their early 2000s rivalry.
