Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the halt on March 29, emphasizing that the decision was precautionary and intended to give Turner adequate time to recover. While the studio did not initially disclose specifics, reports from sources close to the production indicate the issue is a minor back injury linked to a recurring condition.
According to insiders, the injury is a flare-up of a “perpetual back problem” Turner first experienced during the physically demanding training required for her role as Lara Croft. The role involves extensive stunt work and action sequences, which appear to have contributed to the strain.
Filming for the high-profile series began in mid-January 2026 and has been მიმდინing across multiple UK locations. Shortly before the pause, Turner was seen shooting action-heavy scenes in Surrey and at the British Museum, underscoring the physically intense nature of the production.
Despite the interruption, the delay is expected to be brief. Sources suggest Turner could return to set within approximately two weeks, assuming a smooth recovery. In the meantime, production has not come to a complete standstill. Crew members are continuing with preparatory work and other tasks that do not require Turner’s presence, helping to keep the overall schedule on track.
The series, created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, has generated significant attention due to both its source material and its cast. Alongside Turner, the show features Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay, and Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, Lara Croft’s tech-savvy ally.
Amazon MGM Studios expressed confidence that the setback will not have a lasting impact on the project, noting they are looking forward to resuming filming as soon as possible.
