In a mid-April 2026 interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, the 68-year-old actor spoke candidly about how the past several years have reshaped his outlook. After enduring a lengthy legal battle following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Baldwin said he has grown accustomed to staying home and no longer feels motivated to work.
“I don’t want to leave my house anymore. I don’t. I don’t want to work anymore,” Baldwin said. “I want to retire and stay home with my kids.”
The actor described the aftermath of the incident in New Mexico as “unspeakably difficult” and “painful,” noting that the experience took a significant toll on his health, finances, and family life. Over roughly three and a half years, Baldwin said he worked very little, which contributed to a shift in how he views his career.
Despite these remarks, Baldwin has not fully stepped away from the industry. His professional slate remains active. The film Rust was completed and released in 2025, and a documentary, The Trial of Alec Baldwin, directed by Rory Kennedy, recently premiered with his participation. He is also still attached to upcoming projects, including Kid Santa and National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle.
Legally, Baldwin’s situation was resolved in July 2024, when all involuntary manslaughter charges against him were dismissed with prejudice, meaning they cannot be brought again.
Outside of work, Baldwin has been focusing more on his family. He and his wife, Hilaria, share seven children and gave audiences a glimpse into their home life through the 2025 reality series The Baldwins. Baldwin credited his wife as a critical source of support during the crisis, calling her his “anchor.”
