Ashley Park Recalls “Unforgettable” Croissant-Throwing Scene with Lily Collins in Emily in Paris Season 5, Says On-Set Chaos and Real-Life Friendship Made It a Standout Moment

Ashley Park says she won’t forget filming a croissant-throwing scene in the latest season of Emily in Paris.

Season 5 of the Netflix series, released in December, includes a moment where Park’s character, Mindy Chen, throws pastries at her best friend Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins. Speaking at PaleyFest LA on April 10, Park described the scene as memorable both emotionally and physically.

Park said the argument between the characters was unusual because it does not reflect her real-life relationship with Collins. She explained that the two have a strong friendship and communicate well, so portraying conflict required them to approach the scene differently. According to Park, they came to see the storyline as an opportunity for their characters to grow.

She also described the practical challenge of filming the scene. Croissants are light, she said, so throwing them accurately required more force than expected. In one take, she ended up hitting Collins directly. Park recalled noticing crumbs left on Collins’ face and said she immediately checked in with her between takes to make sure she was okay.

The scene had an added layer of pressure because both actors’ parents were visiting the set in Paris that day. Park said they found the situation amusing, even as they worked through the intensity of the scene. Filming was also disrupted at times by passing boats with tourists calling out to the actors, though Park noted that one of those takes may have been used in the final cut.

Collins also shared a separate memory from filming season 5, describing a scene with Park where they could not stop laughing while wearing face masks. She said the moment left them both in tears and highlighted how much she enjoys working with her co-star.

Netflix has renewed Emily in Paris for a sixth season. Production is scheduled to begin in May, with filming planned in Greece and Monaco.
