Blake Lively Seeks to Keep Her Wealth Out of Trial Against Justin Baldoni

Blake Lively is asking a judge to keep details about her and Ryan Reynolds’ wealth out of the courtroom as she heads toward a high-profile trial against actor and director Justin Baldoni next month.

In legal documents filed April 13, 2026, Lively’s attorneys argued that mentioning the couple’s estimated $380 million net worth could unfairly influence a jury. The trial is scheduled to begin May 18.

At the center of the request is a concern about perception. Lively’s legal team says jurors who hear about her financial status may be more likely to dismiss her claims, viewing them as exaggerated or insincere because she is already wealthy. Her lawyers specifically warned that the jury could interpret her damages claims as “crocodile tears” rather than legitimate losses.

They also argue that her overall wealth has no bearing on the claims that remain in the case. While Lively initially sought around $161 million in damages tied to an alleged smear campaign, a judge recently dismissed her defamation claims along with several others. What remains are allegations of retaliation and breach of contract—claims her attorneys say should be evaluated independently of her financial standing.

The motion also addressed a more unusual point: a request to block any reference to Ryan Reynolds’ “Nicepool” character from Deadpool & Wolverine. Baldoni’s legal team had reportedly wanted to introduce the character—seen as a parody of Baldoni—as evidence that the couple engaged in bullying behavior. A judge has already ruled that argument irrelevant, and Lively is now seeking to ensure it stays out of trial entirely.

The dispute stems from the production and promotion of the 2024 film It Ends With Us, where tensions between Lively and Baldoni allegedly escalated behind the scenes. Although the case has been narrowed significantly—10 of Lively’s original 13 claims have been dismissed—it still carries substantial financial stakes. Reports suggest she may seek damages ranging from $142 million to $300 million.

Ryan Reynolds is expected to testify, along with several other figures connected to the film, including author Colleen Hoover and actors Jenny Slate and Isabela Ferrer. Reynolds’ testimony is likely to focus on the production environment and Lively’s claims of a hostile workplace.
