Schwimmer spoke out on April 6 in a post on Instagram, questioning the decision to book the rapper after his past antisemitic remarks. He said that while West had issued public apologies, including a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal earlier this year, those statements had not been supported by meaningful actions. Schwimmer added that he believes in forgiveness but said it requires more than what has been shown so far, and suggested the apology may be tied to West’s return to music. He also praised companies that have pulled their support, calling their decisions an example of “moral clarity.”
Several major sponsors have since withdrawn from the festival. Pepsi, previously the event’s top sponsor, ended its involvement on April 5. Drinks company Diageo, which owns brands such as Johnnie Walker and Captain Morgan, also pulled out, citing concerns raised with organizers. Other brands, including PayPal, Rockstar Energy, Budweiser, and AB InBev, have reportedly removed their branding as well.
The situation has also drawn political attention. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the booking as “deeply concerning” and said antisemitism must be addressed firmly. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said West’s past comments do not reflect the city’s values, although he noted that City Hall does not control festival programming. There are also reports that the UK government may review whether West should be allowed to enter the country, on the grounds that his presence could be considered against the public good.
Despite the backlash, Wireless Festival organizers have defended their decision. Managing director Melvin Benn said in a statement that the festival supports the idea of second chances and forgiveness. He argued that West has a legal right to perform and that the event is focused on his music rather than his personal views.
Wireless Festival is scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 12, 2026, at Finsbury Park. However, the loss of major sponsors has raised questions within the industry about whether the event will proceed as planned or be scaled back.
