In mid-April 2026 court filings, Combs’ legal team indicated they plan to file counterclaims against Jones. The attorneys said the claims will be based on “recent conduct and facts that have emerged” during the litigation. While specific details have not yet been made public, the counterclaims are expected to challenge the credibility of Jones’ allegations and may address how the lawsuit has been presented in the media.
Jones originally filed the $30 million lawsuit in February 2024, accusing Combs of sexual assault, coercion, and other misconduct during the time they worked together on The Love Album: Off the Grid. He alleges that between 2022 and 2023, he experienced a pattern of drugging, grooming, and sexual exploitation. Combs has denied all allegations, calling them false and financially motivated.
The case has already been narrowed. In March 2025, a federal judge dismissed several major claims, including racketeering (RICO) and breach of contract. The court found that Jones had not sufficiently linked the alleged racketeering activity to his claims of unpaid work. However, the judge allowed other serious allegations to proceed, including claims under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and accusations of sexual assault. Those claims are now in the discovery phase.
The civil case is unfolding alongside Combs’ criminal legal issues. In 2025, he was convicted on two counts related to the Mann Act, which concerns prostitution-related offenses, and is currently serving a 50-month federal sentence.
Earlier this month, on April 9, 2026, Combs’ attorneys argued before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn that conviction. They contended that the events described by prosecutors as “freak-off” parties were actually staged sexual performances that should be protected under the First Amendment. The argument has drawn scrutiny and has not yet been ruled on.
Combs is currently expected to remain in custody until April 2028 unless his appeal succeeds.
The planned counterclaims mark the latest development in a case that continues to evolve, with both sides preparing for a prolonged legal battle.
