Tory Lanez Files $100 Million Lawsuit Over Prison Stabbing

Rapper Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, has filed a federal lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages from the California prison system after a violent attack in 2025.

The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. It names the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), along with the warden and several correctional officers at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

According to the complaint, Lanez was stabbed 16 times during an attack by another inmate in May 2025. The injuries included wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, as well as a collapsed lung. He was airlifted to a hospital and received emergency medical treatment.

The lawsuit identifies the attacker as Santino Casio, an inmate serving a life sentence for murder. Lanez’s legal team argues that Casio had a known history of violence in prison and that officials put Lanez at risk by housing him near such an individual. The filing describes the assault as an “unprovoked life-threatening attack.”

Lanez also claims that prison staff did not respond quickly enough to stop the attack. The lawsuit alleges that officers failed to follow standard procedures, such as using non-lethal tools like flash grenades or smoke devices to intervene.

In addition to the physical injuries, the lawsuit includes claims about Lanez’s personal property. He alleges that prison officials seized songbooks containing unpublished lyrics and have refused to return them. His legal team argues that these materials have significant potential commercial value.

Following the incident, Lanez was transferred to the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo County, where he remains in custody.

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Earlier in 2026, a judge granted Megan Thee Stallion a restraining order against him, citing allegations that he harassed her through third parties while in prison.

As of April 17, 2026, the CDCR has not commented on the specific allegations in the lawsuit, citing the ongoing litigation.
