According to court documents, the plaintiff—identified only as John Doe—claims the incident occurred in April 2024 inside the well-known hotel. The lawsuit alleges that Ye approached the man at his table without warning and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. The plaintiff says he struck his head and lost consciousness, and further alleges that Ye continued hitting him while he was on the floor.
Beyond the physical claims, the lawsuit also accuses Ye of defamation. The plaintiff says Ye falsely accused him of behaving inappropriately toward a woman in Ye’s group, reportedly his wife, Bianca Censori. The filing claims these accusations did not stop at the scene of the incident. Instead, Ye allegedly repeated and exaggerated the claims during a later podcast appearance, which the plaintiff argues led to public embarrassment, reputational harm, and emotional distress.
The lawsuit brings two primary legal claims: battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The plaintiff is seeking financial compensation for medical costs as well as damages tied to psychological harm, though no specific dollar amount has been disclosed.
As of now, Ye or his representatives have not issued a public response to the lawsuit.
This case emerges amid a series of ongoing legal and professional issues for the artist. In recent days, authorities in France have reportedly moved to block a scheduled June 11 performance in Marseille, while the United Kingdom has denied him a visa for an upcoming festival appearance in London.
Legal troubles have also been mounting in the United States. Last week, a former bodyguard filed a lawsuit seeking nearly $1 million in alleged unpaid wages and damages. In a separate case resolved in March, a judge ordered Ye to pay $140,000 to a former handyman following a dispute over work performed at his Malibu property.
