Police say the incident occurred as Buckingham arrived for a private appointment at a building in Santa Monica. A woman approached him and allegedly threw an unknown liquid substance on him before fleeing the scene.
Authorities have identified the suspect as a woman believed to be a stalker who was already known to Buckingham. Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Threat Management Unit are working with the Santa Monica Police Department and believe the act may have been premeditated. According to officials, the suspect appeared to have prior knowledge of Buckingham’s schedule and location.
As of Thursday, April 2, the suspect has been identified, but no arrest has been confirmed. The investigation remains ongoing.
The incident follows prior reports of harassment involving Buckingham and his family. In December 2024, he was granted a permanent restraining order against an individual who had allegedly been harassing them since 2021.
The attack comes at a time when Buckingham has been active professionally. He recently said he is close to completing a new solo album and has spoken positively about the possibility of reconnecting with Stevie Nicks following renewed interest in their early work. He has also confirmed participation in an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary directed by Frank Marshall.
Buckingham’s representatives have not yet issued a formal statement, but authorities have confirmed that he was unharmed in the encounter.
