Man Arrested After Molotov Attack on Sam Altman’s Home, Later Threatens OpenAI Headquarters

A 20-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning, April 10, 2026, after allegedly attacking the San Francisco home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman with a Molotov cocktail and later making threats at the company’s headquarters.

Police said the first incident occurred around 4:12 a.m. in the North Beach/Russian Hill area, where officers responded to reports of a fire at Altman’s residence. According to investigators, the suspect threw an incendiary device at the property, causing a fire that was contained to an exterior gate. No injuries were reported, and the suspect fled on foot.

Less than an hour later, at about 5:00 a.m., officers were called to OpenAI’s headquarters on Third Street in Mission Bay after reports of a man threatening to burn down the building. Responding officers identified the individual as the same suspect involved in the earlier attack and took him into custody without incident.

Authorities have not formally released the suspect’s name, but multiple reports identify him as Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, a 20-year-old from Texas.

He has been booked into San Francisco County Jail on several charges, including attempted murder, arson, use of a destructive device with intent to injure, possession of incendiary materials, and making criminal threats.

In a statement, an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the incidents and said no one was harmed. The company is cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

Police have not yet determined a clear motive for the attack.
