In an interview in Japan with content creator Mimiyuuuh, Streep highlighted what she described as the community’s central role in the fashion world. “There would be no fashion in the world without the LGBTQ+ community,” she said. “Nothing but gratitude—and worry about how we’re judged.”
She expanded on those remarks in a separate interview with Out Magazine, where she emphasized the broader cultural impact. “Would we have fashion without gay people? Forgive me, would we have anything?” Streep said. “I wouldn't know how to put together anything. It's a joy to have made it with the community in mind. Top of mind.”
Her co-star Anne Hathaway expressed similar views, noting that the enduring popularity of the original 2006 film is closely tied to LGBTQ+ audiences. Hathaway suggested that the sequel might not have been made without the community’s continued support over the past two decades.
The upcoming sequel, set for release on April 29, 2026, reunites much of the original cast, including Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The group has been promoting the film across multiple countries, with stops in cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, and Mexico City.
Streep described the global response to the sequel as consistent across regions, saying audience enthusiasm has been “universal.”
The press tour has also included lighter moments among the cast. Stanley Tucci recently responded to Hathaway jokingly calling him the biggest “diva” on set, attributing the label to his attention to wardrobe details.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues the story of the fashion industry characters introduced in the original film, which has remained culturally relevant since its release.
