In an interview on Good Morning America that aired April 20, 2026, Aaron said he suffered a spinal stroke in January after falling at his home. He was in a coma for four days and relied on a ventilator for about a month. He is now in Atlanta undergoing intensive physical therapy and working to regain his ability to walk.
During his hospitalization, Aaron’s family and legal team reviewed his personal affairs and discovered that his wife, Margarita DeLeon, was still legally married to another man. The couple had taken part in a spiritual wedding ceremony in late 2024, but the marriage was not legally valid.
Aaron said DeLeon had told him she had been divorced for more than a decade and claimed to have the paperwork to prove it. Because the divorce was never finalized, DeLeon did not have legal authority to make medical decisions on his behalf. As a result, Aaron’s family restricted her access to him during his hospital stay and removed her from involvement in his care.
In a separate statement, DeLeon said she was unaware that her previous marriage, which began in 1992, had never been legally dissolved. Her former husband reportedly supported that claim, saying he also believed the divorce had been completed years earlier.
Aaron described the situation as his “biggest mistake,” saying he had been unaware of the legal issues and should have verified the paperwork himself.
Despite the personal challenges, Aaron said he is focused on his recovery and remains optimistic about his progress. He told reporters he believes he will be able to walk again sooner than expected.
It is not yet clear whether Aaron and DeLeon remain together or plan to separate following the discovery.
