Resurfaced Essay Becomes Focal Point in Ruby Rose–Katy Perry Case

An essay written by actor and model Ruby Rose in 2011 has resurfaced after she publicly accused singer Katy Perry of sexual assault, prompting a police investigation into an alleged incident from 2010.

The essay, originally published as a column for news.com.au, described a night out in Melbourne involving Rose and Perry. In that account, Rose wrote about drinking heavily, vomiting on Perry’s foot, and later viewing the experience as a turning point that led her to stop drinking. She stated at the time that “nothing horrific happened,” framing the night as embarrassing but ultimately transformative. The evening reportedly included attending a Year 12 formal and later going to the Spice Market nightclub.

On April 12, 2026, Rose posted on the social media platform Threads alleging that she was sexually assaulted by Perry during that same night. She said the earlier essay did not reflect what actually happened and that she had altered the story at the time because she was traumatized and unsure how to process the experience.

In her recent account, Rose alleged that while she was attempting to avoid Perry and was lying with her head on a friend’s lap, Perry exposed herself and engaged in non-consensual contact. Rose said this caused her to vomit. She also claimed she did not come forward earlier because Perry had offered to help her obtain a U.S. visa, which she described as a factor in her decision to remain silent.

Victoria Police confirmed on April 15, 2026, that they are investigating a report of a historical sexual assault dating back to 2010 in Melbourne. Authorities have not released further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Rose has stated that she has completed her formal report and cannot comment further.

Katy Perry’s representatives have denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false” and “dangerous, reckless lies.” They also questioned Rose’s credibility, referencing past public accusations she has made against others.

The differences between Rose’s 2011 essay and her 2026 allegations have become a focal point in public discussion, as the investigation continues.
