Speaking to the audience, Simpson revealed that she spent years struggling with unresolved trauma and alcohol abuse before deciding to quit drinking in 2017. She said she eventually realized that alcohol was not easing her pain but was actually making it worse.
"I realized that the drinking wasn’t numbing my pain, it was actually causing more pain," Simpson told fans, describing alcohol as a crutch that was no longer helping her.
The singer, who has been sober for nearly nine years, said she is still a "work in progress" but is proud of how far she has come. She added that the message behind her new song is about healing, self-forgiveness, and letting go of emotional burdens.
Simpson previously revealed that she decided to stop drinking on Nov. 1, 2017, after feeling she was not fully present for her family. Last year, she marked eight years of sobriety and shared that faith helped her through difficult times, including the end of her marriage to former NFL player Eric Johnson.
