Andrew Garfield Says He’s “Not Immune” to Social Media Addiction

Andrew Garfield has spoken candidly about his complicated relationship with social media, admitting that he struggles with the same habits many users face, including excessive scrolling.

The actor shared his thoughts during an interview at the London premiere of his upcoming film, The Magic Faraway Tree, on March 22, 2026.

Although Garfield does not maintain any official public social media accounts, he revealed that he uses what he described as “creeper accounts” to browse platforms privately. He said he has to be “very, very disciplined” to avoid spending too much time on them.

Garfield acknowledged that he is “not immune” to the effects of social media algorithms. He said technology companies have effectively tapped into human psychology, making their platforms difficult to resist. Despite trying to limit his usage, he admitted he still falls into patterns of “doomscrolling,” where users continuously consume negative or endless content.

His comments follow a lighthearted moment from late 2024, when his We Live in Time co-star Florence Pugh suggested during a press tour that Garfield frequently uses X (formerly Twitter). At the time, Garfield had maintained that he did not have any accounts.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Garfield also expressed understanding for parents who are trying to manage their children’s use of digital platforms. He noted how challenging it can be to set boundaries in an environment designed to capture attention and praised those who succeed in doing so.
