Anne Hathaway Pushed for Healthier Model Casting in The Devil Wears Prada 2, Says Meryl Streep

Anne Hathaway pushed for healthier representation while filming The Devil Wears Prada 2, according to her co-star Meryl Streep.

In a cover story for Harper’s Bazaar (April 2026 issue), Streep said both she and Anne Hathaway were concerned after seeing what she described as “alarmingly thin” models during real runway shows at Milan Fashion Week, where parts of the film were shot.

Streep revealed that Hathaway quickly spoke to the film’s producers to ensure that the models cast for the movie’s fictional fashion show would not reflect unhealthy body standards. According to Streep, Hathaway “made a beeline to the producers” and secured clear assurances on the issue.

Streep praised her co-star’s actions, calling Hathaway a “stand-up girl.” She also noted that she was surprised by how little the fashion industry had changed since the first Devil Wears Prada film was released nearly 20 years ago.

The Devil Wears Prada 2, directed by David Frankel, wrapped production in late 2025 and is set to release on May 1, 2026. The sequel sees Hathaway return as Andy Sachs, now working as a Features Editor, while Emily Blunt reprises her role as Emily, who has become a powerful advertising executive.

Returning cast members also include Stanley Tucci, with new additions such as Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu. Adrian Grenier will not return for the sequel.

The story will focus on the changing media landscape, with Streep’s Miranda Priestly facing the decline of print publishing while relying on advertising revenue controlled by her former assistant Emily.

The film has already generated strong interest ahead of its release, with its trailer reportedly becoming the most-viewed in the history of 20th Century Studios.
