Bob Dylan Launches Patreon Featuring AI-Style Historical Monologues

Bob Dylan has launched a new Patreon project that is drawing attention for its unusual concept and apparent use of artificial intelligence.

The project, titled Lectures from the Grave, was announced on March 29, 2026, through Dylan’s Instagram stories. It offers subscribers access to a mix of audio and written content for $5 per month. The page describes itself as a “living archive.”

The material on the Patreon is presented in several formats. The central feature is a series of long audio monologues attributed to historical figures. These include Aaron Burr talking about survival, Wild Bill Hickok discussing risk, and Frank James reflecting on his past. Some of these recordings run for more than an hour.

Other content includes fictional letters between people from different time periods. One example is a letter imagined from Mark Twain to silent film actor Rudolph Valentino. The page also features short stories published under pseudonyms such as “Marty Lombard,” as well as curated media, including a Mahalia Jackson performance from The Ed Sullivan Show.

Although Dylan and his team have not confirmed the use of artificial intelligence, listeners and critics have pointed to several signs. The voices in the audio recordings reportedly shift accents in ways that suggest synthetic generation. The written pieces are described as “curated by Bob Dylan,” rather than directly authored by him, and are attributed to various pen names. Some reviewers have also noted repetitive or circular storytelling patterns, which are often associated with AI-generated text.

The project stands out given Dylan’s earlier decision to sell his song catalog to Universal Music in 2020 for an estimated $300 million. With roughly 2,000 subscribers, the Patreon currently generates about $10,000 per month. Observers generally view the effort not as a major commercial venture but as an experimental project by the 84-year-old artist.

The Patreon account operates under the username “bobdylan180,” as the name “bobdylan” was already in use.
