Jenny McCarthy Says Dental Infection Led to “Six-Month Living Hell”

Television personality Jenny McCarthy says she endured a “six-month living hell” after a dental procedure led to a serious infection and widespread health problems, according to a March 2026 interview on Maria Menounos’ Heal Squad podcast.

McCarthy explained that her symptoms began after a root canal that she believes was not properly cleaned. The unresolved infection allegedly spread into her jawbone, where she developed what she described as “root cavitations,” or pockets of infection beneath her wisdom teeth. The issue was compounded when her body rejected ceramic dental implants, resulting in a series of corrective procedures. She said she underwent nine mouth surgeries in 2025.

As her condition worsened, McCarthy reported a range of unusual and severe symptoms that were initially difficult for doctors to diagnose. Among the most alarming were pus-filled growths on her eyes, which she said resembled large whiteheads. One growth was surgically removed but returned within weeks, accompanied by what she described as an ongoing infection.

Further testing eventually indicated that she was dealing with mycotoxin poisoning, a condition linked to exposure to toxic compounds produced by mold. According to McCarthy, her doctor warned that the specific strain involved could potentially lead to seizures if it affected the brain.

She also experienced significant weight loss, which she attributed to ongoing dental pain that limited her to soft foods.

Frustrated by a lack of clear answers from conventional medical providers, McCarthy said she sought help from a functional medicine practitioner and a biological dentist. This approach focuses on how oral health can influence the rest of the body. According to McCarthy, this team identified lingering bacteria and mold from the original dental work as the underlying cause of her systemic illness.

McCarthy said she is now recovering and using her experience to raise awareness about the potential connection between dental health and broader medical conditions. She emphasized that despite being otherwise healthy, the hidden infection left her severely debilitated for months.
