The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in Los Angeles. Twigs argues that the NDA is illegal under California law and should not prevent her from speaking about her experiences.
According to the filing, Twigs is asking the court to block enforcement of the NDA. She says the agreement violates the Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act, which bans confidentiality clauses in cases involving sexual misconduct, harassment, or domestic violence.
Her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, argues that the law clearly applies and that Twigs should be allowed to speak freely. Importantly, the lawsuit does not seek any financial compensation.
The issue began in December 2025, when LaBeouf’s legal team reportedly filed a confidential arbitration claim. They accused Twigs of violating the NDA after she gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter.
In that interview, Twigs said she “wouldn’t say I feel safe” when reflecting on her past relationship. Her legal team argues that this statement should not be considered a breach, especially if the NDA itself is invalid.
LaBeouf’s lawyers have argued that the STAND Act does not apply to their agreement. They claim the original case involved “sexual battery,” not “sexual assault,” and therefore falls outside the law’s scope.
Twigs’ legal team has strongly rejected this argument, calling it “absurd” and saying the distinction should not matter under California protections.
The dispute stems from a 2020 lawsuit filed by Twigs, in which she accused LaBeouf of “relentless abuse” during their relationship between 2018 and 2019. The allegations included sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress.
The case was settled privately in July 2025, just months before it was set to go to trial.
This new legal battle comes shortly after LaBeouf faced additional legal trouble. In February 2026, he was arrested in New Orleans for misdemeanor battery following an incident during Mardi Gras.
The court will now decide whether the NDA can be enforced or if it violates California law. The outcome could have broader implications for how confidentiality agreements are used in cases involving abuse.
For now, Twigs says her goal is simple: to speak openly about her experiences and support other survivors.
