$6 Million Settlement Between Kim Kardashian and Ray J Comes to Light

The legal dispute between Kim Kardashian and Ray J has taken a new turn after a previously undisclosed $6 million settlement agreement from 2023 became public.

The document, titled “Confidential Settlement Agreement and Mutual General Release,” was filed as part of an ongoing defamation case and surfaced in court records in March 2026. It shows that the agreement was signed in April 2023 by Kim Kardashian, her mother Kris Jenner, Ray J, and his mother, Sonja Norwood.

According to Ray J, he received $6 million as part of the settlement. The agreement also included a strict non-disparagement clause, preventing all parties from damaging each other’s reputation. It further barred anyone involved from publicly discussing the infamous 2007 sex tape.

However, Ray J now claims that the Kardashians violated the agreement just one month after signing it. His countersuit alleges that they referenced the tape during season three of their Hulu reality series, The Kardashians, which he argues breaches the deal.

The case has since expanded into a broader legal conflict. In late 2025, Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner sued Ray J for defamation after he alleged they were under federal investigation for racketeering. Kardashian has stated in court filings that such claims could harm her efforts to pass the California Bar exam and pursue a legal career.

In response, Kim and Kris filed sworn declarations in March 2026 denying any involvement in staging or orchestrating the release of the sex tape with Vivid Entertainment. Ray J’s legal team has challenged those statements, calling them “demonstrably false” and suggesting they could raise questions of perjury.

Ray J’s attorney, Howard King, has indicated he may call Vivid Entertainment executive Steve Hirsch to testify. According to King, Hirsch could provide insight into how the footage was originally distributed.

While the Kardashian camp maintains that the tape was leaked without their consent, Ray J continues to argue that it was part of a coordinated marketing effort led by Kris Jenner. He is now seeking $1 million in damages for the alleged breach of the 2023 agreement, along with legal fees.

The case remains ongoing, with both sides presenting sharply conflicting accounts that could lead to further legal and reputational consequences.
