Mel Schilling, ‘Married at First Sight’ Expert, Dies at 54

Mel Schilling, a well-known relationship expert on Married at First Sight (MAFS), has died at the age of 54.

Her family confirmed the news in a statement released on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. They said she passed away peacefully “surrounded by love.” Her husband, Gareth, also shared a tribute on Instagram, calling her a “matriarch of MAFS” and his “soulmate.”

Schilling had been open about her health struggles over the past few years. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023. Despite the diagnosis, she continued working and completed 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. She remained committed to her role on the show and did not miss filming.

Earlier in March 2026, Schilling revealed that her cancer had spread to her brain. She said at the time that there were no further treatment options available.

Schilling was a key figure on both the Australian and UK versions of Married at First Sight. She worked as a relationship expert on the Australian series for 12 seasons and became known for her direct advice and strong support for women.

Fans and colleagues have paid tribute to her work and her impact on the show. She was widely respected for encouraging people to build healthy and meaningful relationships.

In their statement, her family shared a message for her supporters: “If you can do anything to honour Mel, please live life to the full, love your people well, and try not to sweat the small stuff.”
