In a YouTube video shared on March 23, 2026—his 48th birthday—Hilton spoke openly about the ordeal, which began with what he thought was a routine case of the flu. The situation quickly worsened after he repeatedly took prescribed medication on an empty stomach, leading to serious internal damage.
According to Hilton, the medication caused a gastric ulcer that eventually perforated his stomach. This allowed infection to spread into his body, triggering Sepsis—a dangerous condition where the body’s immune system attacks its own organs.
He was rushed by ambulance to Southern Hills Hospital, where doctors performed emergency laparoscopic surgery to locate the perforation and clean out the infection. During his three-week hospital stay, Hilton also experienced complications including fluid buildup in his lungs and heart rhythm issues that required additional medication.
Beyond the physical toll, Hilton described a deeply personal and spiritual experience during his hospitalization. Raised Catholic but not previously devout, he said he had what he believes was a direct encounter with God.
“God presented Himself to me. It was not a feeling. It was real,” Hilton said, describing the moment as life-changing. He added that the experience has renewed his faith and led him to commit to returning to the Catholic Church, attending weekly Mass, and enrolling his children in a Catholic school.
Hilton is now recovering at home but continues to receive treatment, including IV antibiotics administered through a PICC line. He also shared plans to make significant lifestyle changes, including getting more rest and spending more time with his family.
He ended his message with a warning to others, urging people to follow medical instructions carefully. “Take medication with food,” he said. “Don’t end up like me.”
