Savannah Guthrie Breaks Down Over Mother’s Alleged Abduction: “It’s Because of Me”

In a deeply emotional televised interview, Savannah Guthrie has spoken publicly for the first time about the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was allegedly abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, nearly two months ago.

The interview, which aired on March 26, 2026, on Today, featured Guthrie in conversation with her longtime colleague Hoda Kotb. During the segment, Guthrie became visibly emotional as she addressed the ongoing investigation and the personal toll the case has taken on her and her family.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, 2026, after she was last seen the previous evening at her residence in Tucson. Authorities have described the case as a suspected abduction. Investigators revealed that blood was discovered on the front porch of the home, and a Ring security camera had been forcibly removed after reportedly capturing footage of a masked individual.

According to law enforcement sources, ransom notes demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin were later received. However, officials have not confirmed the authenticity of those demands and continue to treat the case as an active and complex investigation involving both local authorities and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

During the interview, Guthrie shared that her family has struggled to process the circumstances surrounding her mother’s disappearance. She recounted a conversation with her brother, who raised the possibility that her public profile may have made their mother a target.

Fighting back tears, Guthrie said she has grappled with feelings of guilt, stating that the idea her career could have contributed to the crime is “too much to bear.” She added that she often finds herself imagining her mother’s final moments before the abduction, describing the past eight weeks as “unbearable” and filled with “agony.”

Guthrie also made a direct appeal to anyone with information, as well as to those potentially responsible. “Someone needs to do the right thing,” she said during the broadcast. “She needs to come home now.”

Authorities have released limited suspect details, describing a male individual believed to be approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. The individual was reportedly seen carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack. Investigators have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information.

The Guthrie family has announced a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.

The interview is being broadcast in two parts across March 26 and 27. While Guthrie has not confirmed when she will return permanently to her anchoring duties on Today, Kotb noted during the segment that her colleague has shown resilience amid the crisis, even as the search for answers continues.

As of now, Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
