Sofia Mattsson Joins Days of Our Lives After General Hospital Exit

Sofia Mattsson, best known for her seven-year run as Sasha Gilmore on General Hospital, is set to return to daytime television with a new role on Days of Our Lives.

The casting news was first reported on March 30, 2026, by Stephanie Sloane in her SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish newsletter and was later confirmed through the show’s official social media channels. While Mattsson has already been spotted on set — including a photo in front of dressing room #28 — details about her character remain undisclosed. Producers have not confirmed whether she will be playing a newly created role or stepping into an existing one.

The lack of specifics has led to active fan speculation. One prominent theory suggests Mattsson could be cast as a resurrected Abigail Deveraux, a legacy character on the series. However, there has been no official confirmation supporting that possibility.

Due to the show’s production schedule, which films approximately nine to ten months in advance, Mattsson is not expected to appear on screen until early 2027.

Mattsson’s move follows her departure from General Hospital, where her final scenes aired in July 2025. In her exit storyline, Sasha Gilmore left Port Charles for safety reasons. The character departed alongside her infant daughter, Daisy, with Jason Morgan escorting them to Europe to stay with Sasha’s parents, Robert Scorpio and Holly Sutton.

Speculation about Mattsson’s next project began earlier in March 2026 when she shared an Instagram post revealing a new brunette hairstyle, a notable change from the blonde look associated with her role as Sasha.

Her transition reflects a broader pattern within daytime television, where actors frequently move between long-running soap operas. The shift is particularly notable given that Kate Mansi, a former Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives, is currently appearing on General Hospital as Kristina Corinthos-Davis.

Mattsson’s casting marks her first major daytime role since leaving General Hospital and signals her return to the genre in a new setting on the Peacock-exclusive Days of Our Lives.
