In a recent podcast interview released April 28, Keoghan said he stepped away from social media and public events because of the intense attention. He explained that people created a “narrative” about him that he says is not true, but he chose not to respond at the time.
Keoghan, 33, did not mention Carpenter directly. However, he referred to the backlash that followed their breakup in December 2024 after about a year together. Rumors had circulated that he cheated, though he did not address those claims specifically.
He said the situation became overwhelming and asked people to stop making assumptions about his personal life. He described some of the online reactions as “disgusting” and harmful.
Keoghan also emphasized that he does not want to speak publicly about past relationships, saying it would be unfair to the other person involved. He added that both people in a relationship deserve privacy.
Carpenter has taken a similar approach. While she sometimes draws from personal experiences in her music, she has said she prefers not to reveal who her songs are about, leaving it open to interpretation for listeners.
The former couple began dating in late 2023 and separated about a year later.
