According to a statement from the Lake Havasu City Police Department, officers responded around 2:00 a.m. to a report of a deceased individual. When they arrived, they found a man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is handling the case.
Sheets appeared in 163 episodes of Storage Wars over its first 15 seasons and was known to viewers as “The Gambler.” The show follows buyers who bid on abandoned storage units, often uncovering unexpected and valuable items. Sheets was known for taking risks on high-stakes lockers and once discovered a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln. His most recent appearance on the show was in 2023.
Hours after news of his death, police confirmed they are also reviewing allegations that Sheets had been the target of online harassment. Sgt. Kyle Ridgway told Entertainment Weekly that cyberbullying claims are part of the active investigation.
Fellow Storage Wars cast member Rene Nezhoda said in a social media video that Sheets had recently been dealing with a person who was “tormenting him” online. Nezhoda urged authorities to examine that situation closely, adding that public figures should not be subjected to harassment simply because they appear on television.
Nezhoda also said that while he and Sheets were competitors on the show, they had a personal friendship.
The investigation into Sheets’ death remains ongoing. If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or by texting 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
