Ellen DeGeneres to Return as Dory in New Finding Nemo Short

Ellen DeGeneres is returning to one of her most recognizable roles.

The former talk show host will voice Dory again in a new short film set in the Finding Nemo universe, according to a report published April 24. Production on the project is just beginning, and additional details have not yet been released.

DeGeneres confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of the report and writing, “Excited about this.”

Dory, a forgetful blue tang fish, was first introduced in Pixar’s 2003 film Finding Nemo. The movie follows a clownfish named Marlin as he searches for his missing son. The film was a major success, becoming the highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office that year and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

DeGeneres returned to the role in the 2016 sequel, Finding Dory, which focused on the character’s search for her parents. That film earned more than $1 billion worldwide.

The new project comes as DeGeneres continues to divide her time between the United Kingdom and the United States. She previously moved to the English countryside after purchasing a home there in 2024. In recent months, she has shared updates about her life abroad with her wife, Portia de Rossi.

Despite settling in England, DeGeneres has indicated she is interested in taking on new work. In a 2025 interview, she said she was looking for something to do, noting that while she enjoyed her quieter lifestyle, she was “a little bit bored.”

Sources have said the couple plans to maintain homes in both the U.K. and California, where they have longstanding ties.
