According to court documents and media reports, the incident took place on April 14 at Kate Lohan’s residence during a scheduled custody exchange involving the couple’s two young sons. Authorities say the situation escalated after she became upset about being woken up for the exchange.
Investigators allege that Kate Lohan physically attacked Michael Lohan, punching him multiple times and causing a bloody nose. During the confrontation, she also reportedly threw a steak knife at him in the kitchen. The knife is said to have struck his chest but did not cause injury.
Police who responded to the scene noted that she appeared to be intoxicated at the time of her arrest.
Kate Lohan was taken into custody and charged with assault of a family or household member. Because of a prior conviction for a similar offense in 2024, the charge could be elevated. Her bail was set at $35,000.
As part of her release conditions, a judge ordered her to undergo mandatory alcohol testing and to have no contact with Michael Lohan. Her arraignment was scheduled for April 16.
The incident is the latest in a series of legal disputes between the couple, who married in 2014 and have been separated for several years. In 2025, Michael Lohan was arrested in Texas on a felony assault charge after allegedly flipping Kate out of a chair. He later served time for violating probation in that case.
Both individuals have faced prior legal issues, including arrests related to domestic violence, driving while intoxicated, and violations of protective orders. Michael Lohan has previously claimed to possess video evidence documenting what he describes as ongoing abuse by Kate Lohan.
