Helena Bonham Carter Dropped From The White Lotus After Role Reworked

Helena Bonham Carter will no longer appear in Season 4 of The White Lotus, HBO confirmed Friday.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, the network said the role created for Carter did not work as expected once filming began. Production on the new season is already underway.

“With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” an HBO spokesperson said. “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.”

HBO added that the team was disappointed by the outcome but remains interested in working with Carter in the future.

Deadline first reported the news.

Carter joined the cast in January as part of the upcoming season, which will be set in France. The anthology series typically features a largely new cast each season.

Other actors confirmed for Season 4 include Chris Messina, Marissa Long, Steve Coogan, Alexander Ludwig, AJ Michalka, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel, Ari Graynor, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.

Carter is known for her roles in films such as Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), The King’s Speech (2010), and Les Misérables (2012).
