The actor, who has played Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola for more than two decades, confirmed that the shift is due to budget decisions. According to Ice-T, the return of Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins, now back as a full-time series regular, affected how the show allocates its resources. As a result, producers adjusted his role for the season.
“They told me they’d sprinkle me in,” Ice-T said in a recent interview, explaining that his character would appear intermittently rather than in every episode.
Despite the reduced presence, Ice-T said he is not worried. He noted that he has a busy schedule outside the show, including working on music and spending time with his family. He also emphasized that there is no tension with the production.
“I’ve been on this show for 27 years,” he said. “They’ve taken care of me for so long.”
His main concern, he added, was ensuring that his character was not being written out entirely. Instead, the current arrangement allows him to remain part of the series while appearing less frequently.
The show has incorporated his absence into the storyline, with Fin taking time off and considering retirement. However, Ice-T confirmed that he has returned to filming for the final episodes of Season 27, signaling a stronger presence toward the end of the season.
Looking ahead, the actor indicated that his goal is to continue through Season 28. He also welcomed the strong reaction from fans, noting that their concern reflects continued interest in the character.
For now, Fin Tutuola remains part of SVU, though on a reduced schedule as the show balances its cast and budget.
