In a decision issued March 30, 2026, Judge Steven A. Ellis denied a request by Kardashian and Jenner to file the 2023 settlement agreement under seal. The judge said they did not show that releasing the information would cause significant harm, describing their arguments as “too vague, speculative, and amorphous.”
The ruling allows only limited redaction. A bank account number may be partially hidden, but the rest of the agreement must be filed without edits. This means the financial terms and other conditions of the deal are expected to become part of the public record.
The dispute is tied to a broader legal fight that began in late 2025. Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J for defamation, accusing him of making false claims that they were under federal investigation for racketeering. Ray J denied wrongdoing and filed a countersuit.
In his countersuit, Ray J alleges that the two breached a confidential settlement reached in April 2023. He claims he was paid $6 million to remain silent about the 2003 sex tape that brought widespread attention to Kardashian. He further alleges that Kardashian and Jenner violated the agreement by discussing the matter on their Hulu reality show shortly after the deal was signed.
Kardashian and Jenner have denied these claims. In sworn statements filed in March 2026, both rejected long-standing accusations that they played a role in orchestrating the release of the tape.
With the judge’s ruling, the unredacted settlement is expected to be filed in court soon. Once submitted, it will likely clarify whether the reported $6 million payment is accurate and outline any confidentiality or non-disparagement terms included in the agreement.
The case remains ongoing.
