The 39-year-old singer will join the show’s current top five contestants—Keyla Richardson, Jordan McCullough, Chris Tungseth, Hannah Harper, and Braden Rumfelt—during a special reunion episode airing Monday, May 4. The episode will celebrate the show’s 2006 season, also known as season 5.
According to American Idol companion podcast host Danielle Fishel, several fan-favorite contestants from that season will return to perform duets with the finalists. These include Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin, Bucky Covington, and Pickler. Former judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are also expected to appear.
Pickler has largely stayed out of the public eye since February 2023, when her husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, died at age 49. Following his death, she shared a message thanking fans for their support and spoke about focusing on staying still during difficult moments, a lesson she said her husband had taught her.
The couple began dating in 2008 and married in 2011. They also appeared together on the reality TV show I Love Kellie Pickler, which aired from 2015 to 2017.
Although she has kept a low profile, Pickler made a return to the stage in April 2024 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville during a tribute concert for Patsy Cline. There, she performed “The Woman I Am,” a song she co-wrote with Jacobs, and told the audience it was her first time performing in a while.
Her upcoming appearance on American Idol is expected to be another meaningful moment as she returns to the show where she first rose to fame.
