Kristin Cavallari Says Marriage to Jay Cutler Was “Predestined” Despite Divorce

Kristin Cavallari is opening up about how she now understands her past relationship with ex-husband Jay Cutler, framing it as part of a larger spiritual journey rather than simply a failed marriage.

Speaking on a recent episode of her podcast Let’s Be Honest, Cavallari said she believes their relationship was “predestined,” despite previously describing it as toxic. The reality star and entrepreneur explained that she views their time together through the lens of what she calls a “soul contract.”

According to Cavallari, a soul contract is the idea that two people agree, before life begins, to enter into a relationship for specific purposes. In her case, she believes she and Cutler were meant to marry and have children together.

“I was supposed to marry my ex-husband, and I was supposed to have three kids with him,” she said. “That was my journey.”

Cavallari recalled feeling a strong, almost unexplainable pull toward Cutler, even during times when the relationship was not working. She acknowledged that some might interpret that feeling as a sign of an unhealthy attachment, but she now sees it as part of a spiritual process she needed to experience.

The couple, who divorced in 2020, share three children: Camden, Jaxon, and Saylor. Cavallari emphasized that while the marriage did not last, she believes it served an important purpose in her personal growth.

She said some relationships are not meant to last long-term, but instead exist to teach specific life lessons. In that sense, she views her marriage as successful in fulfilling its purpose, even though it ended.

Cavallari also noted that her perspective reflects an ongoing shift in how she balances logic and spirituality in her life. While she generally encourages people to move on from unhealthy relationships, she suggested that certain connections can feel deeper and harder to explain.
