Speaking on the April 22 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Swedish pop singer said she was “messy as a teenager” and described an incident that happened when she was 16. Larsson recalled attending a New Year’s Eve party where one of her best friend’s boyfriends flirted with her throughout the night. Although she said she was actually interested in someone else, the situation escalated when the boyfriend kissed her.
“I just kissed him back because I was messy like that,” Larsson said, adding that she had been drinking. She described the moment as a “weird, unforgivable mistake.”
The situation worsened when another person at the party filmed the kiss without her knowledge and sent the video to her friend before Larsson could explain what happened. As a result, her friend and others in their group cut ties with her. Larsson said the fallout left her feeling isolated, and the friendship was not repaired for four years.
The singer has since reflected on the experience and used it as inspiration for her music, including “Girl’s Girl,” a track from her album Midnight Sun.
In a separate interview with The Guardian, Larsson also revealed that she lost a $3 million brand deal following a controversial social media exchange. After a fan posted a TikTok video joking about having an abortion after attending one of her concerts, Larsson replied with a comment that some viewed as inappropriate.
According to Larsson, the response led to the loss of what would have been her largest brand partnership. Despite this, she said she was not concerned about missing out on the deal.
Larsson is preparing to release a remix album titled Midnight Sun: Girls Trip on May 1. The project will include collaborations with several artists, including Shakira, PinkPantheress, and Robyn.
