Arizona Sheriff Says Progress Made in Search for Missing Nancy Guthrie

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says investigators are making progress in the case of missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie.

Nanos briefly spoke to a FOX News reporter on Friday, May 8, outside the sheriff’s department. When asked if authorities were closer to solving the case, he replied, “We are.”

Nancy Guthrie, 84, is the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie. She has been missing since Jan. 31.

Investigators believe she was taken from her Tucson home against her will during the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Security video from the home showed a masked man outside the house.

Police previously said they found blood identified as Guthrie’s outside the home. They also found mixed DNA evidence that is still being tested.

In March, Sheriff Nanos told NBC News that investigators believe the case may have been targeted, but they are not completely certain.

“We believe we know why he did this,” Nanos said at the time. “But we’re not 100% sure.”

On Mother’s Day, May 10, Savannah Guthrie shared a message about her missing mother on social media.

“We will never stop looking for you,” she wrote. “We will never be at peace until we find you.”

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s location or an arrest in the case.

The Guthrie family is also offering a $1 million reward and has donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
