Hayden Panettiere Reveals Frightening Boat Incident From Her Teen Years in Hollywood

Actress Hayden Panettiere has shared details about a frightening experience she says happened when she was 18 years old during her early years in Hollywood.

Speaking on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, Panettiere said she was taken onto a boat by someone she trusted and later realized she was in danger. She explained that, at the time, she believed she was mature enough to make safe decisions, but now understands she was still very young.

Panettiere said the incident is described in her new memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” released May 12. According to her account, a person she considered a protector led her into a small room on the boat and placed her beside a well-known man who was undressed.

She said she immediately felt alarmed and decided to escape the situation. Because the boat was already far from shore, she felt trapped and had nowhere safe to go. Panettiere said she hid on the boat until she could get away.

The actress described the experience as both frightening and deeply disappointing because it involved someone she trusted. She said the betrayal affected her strongly, especially after previous difficult experiences in her life.

Panettiere began acting as a child and became widely known for roles in “Heroes,” “Remember the Titans,” and other television shows and films. In recent interviews promoting her memoir, she has also spoken publicly about surviving an abusive relationship with former partner Brian Hickerson.

Her memoir focuses on personal struggles, trauma, and recovery during her years in the entertainment industry.
