The Australian conservationist and TV personality missed the Steve Irwin Gala on May 2 for the second year in a row. Her mother, Terri Irwin, and brother, Robert Irwin, said she avoided travel to focus on her health.
“Bindi is doing so much better now,” Terri said in an interview with E! News. She explained that travel is still difficult, so Bindi stayed home but continues to help with work at Australia Zoo.
Robert added that Bindi is playing an important role by managing responsibilities at the zoo and their conservation land. He said her efforts also honor their late father, Steve Irwin, whose legacy the annual gala celebrates.
Bindi has been dealing with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it, causing pain and other health problems. She first shared her diagnosis in 2023 after years of symptoms.
Last year, she had surgery that included removing her appendix, treating a hernia, and removing multiple endometriosis lesions. She has since spoken openly about her long struggle, saying she went undiagnosed for about 10 years.
In a recent social media post, Bindi said she has had dozens of lesions removed over the past three years and described the condition as causing “inescapable pain.” She also encouraged others with similar symptoms to seek help and not give up.
Her family says she is now focusing on recovery while continuing her conservation work from home.
