In a YouTube interview with Betches, Blunt was asked what she would say to women who are unhappy in their jobs. She initially joked, “Quit… no,” before adding that people should try to find work they truly care about. She said that even if a job pays little or no money, loving what you do can lead to happiness.
The remarks quickly drew backlash on social media. Many people said the advice felt unrealistic, especially coming from a wealthy celebrity. Some critics called her comments “out of touch” and said most people cannot afford to leave stable jobs or work for little pay due to financial responsibilities.
Others pointed out that while passion is important, income is necessary for basic needs like housing, food, and healthcare.
Blunt, who is estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars, has not publicly responded to the criticism.
She is currently promoting “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” where she returns as Emily Charlton alongside Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci. The film is set to release in theaters on Friday.
In a separate interview, Blunt described her character as “unhinged” and said she enjoys playing her, especially now that the character has more power in the sequel.
