According to a complaint filed Friday in federal court in California, Samsung allegedly placed a copyrighted photo of the singer on boxes for its TVs and used the packaging to market and sell the products. The lawsuit says Dua Lipa did not approve the use of the image and was not paid for it.
The singer claims she discovered the issue around June 2025 and asked Samsung to stop using her image. However, the lawsuit alleges the company refused to remove the packaging from the market.
In the filing, Dua Lipa says Samsung’s actions created the false impression that she endorsed the televisions. The complaint argues that the company used her fame and public image to help promote its products and increase sales.
The lawsuit describes Samsung’s response to her complaints as “dismissive and callous” and says the company continued selling the TVs despite repeated requests to stop.
Dua Lipa is also accusing Samsung of copyright infringement, trademark violations, false endorsement under the federal Lanham Act, and violating California’s right of publicity law. She says the company’s conduct caused harm to her reputation and brand.
The photo at the center of the case was reportedly taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. The filing claims Dua Lipa owns the rights to the image.
Over the years, the singer has worked with many major global brands, including Puma, YSL Beauty, Bvlgari, Chanel, Porsche, Apple, and Tiffany & Co. The lawsuit argues that because Dua Lipa is known for high-profile partnerships, consumers could wrongly believe she officially partnered with Samsung.
She is seeking at least $15 million in damages, along with a court order preventing Samsung from continuing to use her image.
