Emilia Clarke on Why Some of Her Biggest Projects Failed

Emilia Clarke has acknowledged that several of her major franchise projects after Game of Thrones did not connect with audiences as hoped.

In an interview with Variety, Clarke said of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, “I think no one liked that show.” She also admitted that fans were not enthusiastic about Solo: A Star Wars Story and Terminator Genisys.

After becoming famous as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, Clarke starred in several high-profile franchise productions. However, Terminator Genisys received poor reviews and its planned sequels were canceled. Solo faced production problems and underperformed at the box office, while Secret Invasion received a lukewarm response from Marvel fans.

Clarke said she does not take the criticism personally because she joins projects that are already part of established franchises. “My connection to a project ends when they say, ‘Picture wrap,’” she explained.

Looking ahead, Clarke said she plans to be more selective and “wait for the right thing.” Her recent Peacock spy thriller Ponies has received strong reviews, earning a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
