Hailey Bieber Says She Feels Misunderstood in the Public Eye

Hailey Bieber says she often feels misunderstood in the public eye.

In a new interview with Time published on May 6, the Rhode skincare founder opened up about dealing with criticism and constant attention online. Hailey, 29, said being part of a famous family and married to singer Justin Bieber brings a lot of pressure.

“Being in this position, in general, there’s a lot of judgment,” she said. “When you're trying to figure out who you are on such a big scale and in front of so many different people, it feels really restricting.”

Hailey explained that interviews can make her uncomfortable because she believes her words are often twisted or misunderstood. She said this sometimes makes her want to “close off” from people.

“I want to share my life, and I want to be open and exactly who I am,” she said. “But it feels hard sometimes having every single thing looked at and picked apart.”

She also spoke about how people create stories about celebrities that may not be true. “When people have made up their mind about something and about you, they don't care what the truth is,” she said.

Although she sometimes feels the need to defend herself, Hailey said she has learned there is only so much she can do. “I have to live my life and continue to move forward,” she added.

Later in the interview, Hailey said she often feels “very misunderstood.”

The interview comes as her skincare company, Rhode, was named one of Time magazine’s Most Influential Companies of 2026.

Last month, Hailey attended the TIME100 Gala in New York City after spending time in California supporting Justin Bieber during Coachella. For the event, she wore a custom Calvin Klein gown inspired by a 1992 design and completed the look with diamond earrings.
